You don’t currently buy a Morgan motor car for the performance, but rather for the experience of driving which it can turn into fun without speed having anything to do with it.
The Plus 4 is a car thoroughly anchored in those values, with its Ford-sourced four-cylinder engine putting out a weedy 145 hp and taking it past 62 mph or 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, and yet it will very soon be revealed with what we are lead to believe is considerably more power.
Autocar says it has information that Morgan is going to bring “the most powerful Plus 4 ever” made to next week’s Geneva motor show . The more powerful variant is believed to retain a four-pot engine, though it will make much more than the old stock Duratec – will they turbocharger it?
The current incarnation of the model was launched in 2005, though it traces its roots back to 1950, and it’s never been the best at drag racing. However, with a low-low curb weight of 877 kg or 1,933 lbs, the extra power it’s predicted to get may shift its appeal a bit.
