A new generation of the Honda NSX could be on the cards and if launched, will be all-electric.
Official word from the car manufacturer is that it is not planning a third generation of the NSX. However, vice president and Acura brand officer at American Honda, Jon Ikeda, is confident that an all-new model will get the go-ahead and serve as the perfect halo model for the brand’s shift to battery electric vehicles.
Speaking with Nikkei Asia, Ikeda noted that the new NSX could be underpinned by the same e:Architecture platform as mainstream Honda and Acura models. The utilization of electric motors would also allow Honda to extract great levels of performance from the vehicle, the likes of which far surpasses even the outgoing NSX with its three electric motors and 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6.

“I would bet on it,” Ikeda replied when asked about the potential of a third-generation NSX, adding that if it does see the light of day, “it’s going to be electric.” Ikeda also stated that the car won’t just be about “straight lines” and that it will demonstrate its performance in other ways.
Honda’s global chief executive Toshihiro Mibe has confirmed the car manufacturer will spend $40 billion to transition into an all-electric brand by 2040. In the more immediate future, it will launch 30 BEVs by the end of this decade. The first all-new model launching as part of this plan will be the Prologue SUV, developed alongside General Motors and using its Ultium platform and battery technology. It will hit the production line in 2024.
Nikkei Asia notes that several individuals from Honda believe launching a third-generation NSX sometime between 2024 and 2026 would be ideal, allowing the company to show the world that it can truly compete with others in the EV space.
