The ProMaster van , based on the Fiat Ducato, was launched in full North American spec a few weeks back, but it seems that Ram is not even going to wait and see how it goes sales-wise, before making announcements about further additions to the same line of vehicles.
We learn from the official Chrysler press site that 2015 is the year US customers will also be able to order the Fiat Doblo-based ProMaster City, the smallest Ram in the range (probably).
Reid Bigland, President and CEO - Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC explained the reasoning behind the announcement: "The Ram ProMaster City further expands the Ram Commercial truck lineup, which includes everything from vans to pickups to Class Four and Five trucks… As Ram Commercial continues to gain share and grow sales in the market, we will be aggressive in our goal of expanding our commercial vehicle offerings."
Powertrain options will be adapted for market-specific needs, as will the styling which will get a hefty dose of implanted Ram DNA that will probably look a bit out of place on its petit body which will probably also come in multiple wheelbases and styles.
