Land Rover has just pulled the digital wraps off its Range Rover with the extended wheelbase model, announcing its debut at the Los Angeles (20 November) and Guangzhou motor shows (21 November), alongside the ultra-exclusive new Autobiography Black model which debuts at the Dubai motor show (5 November).
The Indian-owned British manufacturer was already proud of the extra space the new Range had in the rear over its questionably packaged predecessor, so we expect the lwb model to thoroughly warrant its frequently attributed limousine moniker.
It’s the first extended wheelbase model they’ve done in 20 years, and it adds an extra 140 mm (5.5 in) of rear legroom and is enhanced by seatbacks that recline up to 17 degrees, if owners specify the executive seating package. Trim choices are the usual Vogue, Vogue SE, Autobiography now complimented by the new Autobiography Black.
According to Land Rover's release, the latter gets “a number of changes” that “give it a distinctive and subtly different character. A unique design finish has been appointed to the front grille and side vents along with distinguishable badging in black enamel and chrome. Signature rear lamps and auxiliary vents to the front add to the exclusivity of this vehicle with a chrome accent finish to the tailgate.”
It comes with two sets of unique, exclusive wheels in either 21- or 22-inch flavors finished in a high gloss polished coat.
Inside, the Autobiography Black also gets a redesigned center console for the rear passengers, complete with USB charging ports and cup holders.
If you want the color to set off your new Range, the top spec trim has three exclusive color combinations at launch (March 2014): Ebony/Lunar, Espresso/Tan and Dark Cherry/Ivory – the latter comes with dual-tone-upholstered seats. However, more alternatives will be added to this list as time goes by. The Lunar/Cirrus and Navy/Ivory combinations will be made available next spring.
