The Ferrari F2003-GA in which Michael Schumacher won his sixth F1 driver’s title is the most expensive single-seater ever after fetching an incredible $14,630,000 in an auction by RM Sotheby’s.
This price is almost double the previous record of $7,504,000 set back in 2017 by the Ferrari F2001 which was also driven by the legendary Michael Schumacher. It is also far beyond the original estimates from RM Sotheby’s appraisers which expected it to sell for anything between $7.5 and $9.5 million right before the November 9 auction.

As you would expect from a $14,6 million vehicle, the Ferrari F2003-GA has been maintained in pristine condition and is ready to hit the track. The racecar was recently put through its paces by Mick Schumacher who was lucky enough to drive one of the most iconic single-seaters from his father’s illustrious career.
The F1 single-seater with chassis number 229 was designed by Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn as an evolution of the F2002 which dominated the previous season. The GA initials in the codename were added to honor Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli who passed away that year. The 3.0-liter V10 engine which was rebuilt this year from the Ferrari Formula 1 Clienti program produces as much as 917 hp (684 kW / 930 PS) and revs up to 19,000 rpm.
As far as racing is concerned, while competition for Schumacher was tougher than in previous years, he managed to secure the 2003 championship in the last race of the season, finishing 2 points ahead of runner-up Kimi Raikkonen. Schumacher was victorious in five Grand Prix races (Spain, Austria, Canada, Italy, and the US) and stepped onto the podium in another two (Monaco, France).
