We appreciate most of Chris Harris’ video takes on cars , and we think most are balanced enough to be taken seriously, even if the story itself is usually told in an amusing fashion, it's always thought-provoking in some way and worth-watching.
There’s no downside, then, to just poking a bit of fun, and taking two interesting mainstream vehicles from opposite ends of the size, power and price spectrum, and putting them together… especially if it's done in the name of science.
We say that because this latest video doesn’t really have any significance in terms of actually comparing the two vehicles he’s chosen, a Ford Fiesta ST and a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG , because the V8-powered SUV is far quicker in a straight line, and far more cumbersome around the corners. So, in an effort to keep things entertaining, Harris times the Fiesta to 62 mph (100 km/h) and achieves a time of 7.2 seconds.
However, instead of then doing a similar run in the G-Wagen , because it would have been much faster, he hitches a trailer to the back of it, drives the Fiesta onto the trailer, then tries measuring the acceleration time. We won’t tell you which vehicle won, or by what margin, but let’s just say you’ll still be surprised by the result.
