It looks like GM may not be content with the six-speed automatic transmission it offers in the newCorvette Stingray . It may have been adequate for a C6, but the C7 needs a seven-speed automatic, right? I mean it’s just awkward for the manual transmission to have more gears…
Well, now we learn that it may very well be that the product planners at GM were thinking the exact same thing, because a report published on CorvetteForum.com reveals the company recently filed a patent for just such a gearbox. The information provided suggests that while the dual-clutch setup would most likely be offered across the range, not just limited to the higher performance model.
We agree to this as being a valid hypothesis, since this is definitely the way forward, towards making the ‘Ray a worthy opponent for the Porsche 911 , customers of which swear by the optional PDK self-shifter.
